Thanks for reading my flash fiction. I have been writing flash fiction and Hint fiction for many years now. Hint fiction is a story in 25 words.

Here is a contest entry that I put in at one of my Sherlock groups. The rules were a letter from a minor character in the series that is only 300 words long.


Sherlock Holmes
221B Street

Mr. Holmes,

This letter is to advise you that a certain Mr. James Moriarty has left in my care several items, which upon his demise, he wished for you to have. There is a sealed envelope and a small box. These items at the law offices of:

Chambridge and Soffelt
5 Bridge Court
Trent Vale
Staffordshire
020-9666-2777

I am assured that these items are time sensitive and that they should be in your hands as soon as possible. So I am sending this letter in hopes of finding a more expeditious means of communications with you. We have attempted to phone you by mobile with no success.

These items were delivered to us via a young police officer, Adam Smythe, who claims to have been in contact with your companion, Dr. John Watson, during a recent investigation by you of a possible murder which turned out to be a sad and strange accident concerning a booma rang. Officer Smythe says that in the pursuit of the evidentiary gathering, these items and a letter addressed to our firm were retrieved from the crime scene. The officer assures us that these items had to remain in police custody for a period of time before being released to us due to the on-going investigation, thus the minor delay in contacting you.

I know this is highly irregular. We, here at the firm, have tried to investigate this matter with our limited resources. Having found out that James Moriarty appears to be a man of unlimited wealth and nefarious objectives, we are terribly concerned about these items being held in our offices. Please contact us at your earliest convenience so that we may settle this affair and hand over these items to you.
